In order to insure your computer is secure from viruses and spyware, you should try to follow these general tips. Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus program that does a very good job of removing viruses from your system.

Microsoft provides free updates for most if not all of their software
Update Your PC Automatically

To help keep your PC more secure and reliable, it's a good idea to install new updates as soon as they're available. The easiest way to install updates is to use the Windows Update service and make sure automatic updating is turned on.  The attempt the following steps to turn on automatic updates. If you have any problems or are unable to complete these steps please click here to see an alternative walk through.

To turn on automatic updates:

  1. Click "Start"
  2. Click "Control Panel"
  3. Click "Automatic Updates"
  4. Set the bullet to "Automatic Updates (recommended)" and choose an appropriate time to automatically update your system.  We recommend sometime when your computer is on but no one is using it.
  5. Finally click "Ok"
