User names are set to be first initial, middle initial, and last name, unless that is currently
being used. In that case, the middle initial will be dropped from the username and the user will be notified.
Default passwords are set to be the first initial, last initial, last six digits of the social
security number, and the $ sign.
Before accessing an account users must change their password from the default.
Students are limited to 500 MB of network storage space.
Faculty and Staff are limited to 600 MB (but the Information Technology Department can increase the limit
under necessary circumstances.)
If anyone exceeds the amount allowed on their network share, they will be notified by the Information
Technology Department by email and asked to remove items to bring them back down to the previously mentioned limit.
Only the names of files will be viewed to determine if the user has been infected with a type of virus
causing the excess disk usage. Individual files will not be opened and/or viewed.
If, in the course of routine maintenance, anything is found on the network storage space breaking
copyright laws it will be removed.
Students are limited to 50 MB worth of email storage space.
Faculty and staff are limited to 300 MB worth of email storage space.
Adjunct Faculty are limited to 100 MB worth of email storage space.
If an individual exceeds this space, the server automatically generates an e-mail notifying them of the transgression.
Email older than one year will automatically be deleted by the server. If an individual wishes to keep email,
it must be archived.
Message size limit for outgoing mail is 10 MB.
Message size limit for incoming mail is 10 MB.
All file attachments that include the extensions that follow or are virus infected areautomatically blocked by the server:
If you need a file that has been blocked by the server, contact the Information Technology HelpDesk and they will make arrangements for you to receive it if it is not virus infected.
When a student or employee leaves McKendree University, their personal
network stored files are saved to a CD or DVD and the network account is
removed immediately following their departure from the college. The email
account of the student or employee and all email messages within that
account are completely and permanently removed. The account(s) for a
graduate will be removed 3 months from the date of completing their final
course, not from the date of their graduation ceremony.
