Wireless Policies

All users who connect to the McKendree Wireless must have signed the computer user agreement form and be actively enrolled with the University. All McKendree agreements and policies for normal usage of the internet also apply to our wireless connections.

Wireless Devices
  • All wireless devices such as routers, switches and access points will need to be registered and configured by I.T. This is being done to ensure that the wireless devices will play nicely with our network. When misconfigured, these devices can and have brought down the student network for a building or the entire student community.

    Registration is quick and easy. Students will need to bring in only the wireless device. I.T. will configure it just for them, set a password so unauthorized users cannot gain access and set the wireless SSID.

    The purpose is to allow students to quickly, securely and reliably connect to their own wireless router and not someone else's. It also allows for I.T. to quickly root out a problem if it should arise. Before the policy, finding the problem could take several hours and several trips to McK West and the Residence Halls. I.T. will monitor changes to the wireless devices and if a change has been made, either by accident or purposely, we will again make every effort to contact the student. If no contact has been made, I.T. will consider the device an unauthorized device as stated in the McKendree University Computing Policy and will be forced to shut down the port.
